Hello, I'm Wendy!
The Well-being Alchemist. Practitioner. Lifelong learner. Professional rabbit-hole explorer.
I've had what you might politely describe as an eclectic career.
I started out at Unilever Research, working in Human Studies and dermal toxicology. Part of my job involved investigating consumer reactions to products and preparing patch tests for dermatologists.
So yes, my fascination with human beings, their bodies and why they react the way they do started rather early!
From there, I ventured into finance, corporate programme management and organisational change before finding my way into the wonderfully fascinating world of well-being.
My first step was training in Anatomy & Physiology and then as a Massage Therapist, which gave me a practical grounding in bodywork and sparked an even greater curiosity about the relationship between our physical bodies, emotions and minds.
I no longer offer massage, but that understanding has stayed with me.
And then, being me, I kept learning.
Coaching, EFT, meditation, motivational psychology, mind-body connections...
One qualification led to another. And another.
I'm now an ILM Level 7 Executive Wellness Coach, Advanced EFT Practitioner, qualified Meditation Teacher, mBIT Coach and Motivational Maps Practitioner, amongst other things.
I've even trained as a Firewalk Instructor, because apparently walking over hot coals seemed like a perfectly reasonable addition to my professional development.
I have qualifications. Quite a few, actually.
But I promise not to bore you with the entire collection.
The way I see things
I'm endlessly curious about why we do what we do, how our brains work, what makes us tick and why something that works brilliantly for one person can be about as useful as a chocolate teapot for another.
I'm also AuDHD, which probably explains some of the curiosity, the enthusiasm for new projects and my impressive ability to acquire hobbies.
It also means I understand, both personally and professionally, that traditional approaches to well-being don't always work for everyone.
And I have a bit of a problem with the word 'should'.
You should meditate every morning.
You should have a perfect routine.
You should be more mindful, more productive, more positive...
Really? Says who?
I'm a meditation teacher who doesn't believe everyone needs to sit still and meditate. I believe well-being is personal, individual and sometimes downright messy.
Life has thrown me a few curveballs over the years, including significant health challenges, unexpected changes and some spectacular opportunities to practise what I preach.
Have I always handled them with grace and serenity?
Absolutely not.
But I've learnt a great deal along the way, and those experiences have shaped the way I work.
I combine evidence-informed approaches, practical experience, curiosity and a healthy dose of common sense. I love helping people understand themselves, question old assumptions and find their own way forward.
And when I'm not working?
There's a fair chance I'm swimming, cycling, making something, growing something, reading something or researching something completely unrelated to what I was supposed to be doing.
I share my home with my family and an assortment of animals, including a parrot who has absolutely no respect for my professional credentials.
I love learning new skills, exploring new places, getting creative and finding the extraordinary in the everyday.
I also believe laughter is seriously underrated.
So what's my philosophy?
Well-being isn't about fixing yourself, achieving perfection or becoming some permanently serene, green-juice-drinking version of yourself.
(Although I do love a good juice.)
It's about understanding who you are, recognising what you need, embracing your individuality and making space for a life that feels good to live.
A little science. A little curiosity. A little alchemy.
And absolutely no requirement to have your shit together all the time.
